TSU Team Wins a Moot Court Competition in EU Law

 

The student team "Beyond the Bar" consisting of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Faculty of Law, International Law Institute students: Giorgi Chachkhiani, Gvantsa Dolbaia and Alexander Pataraia became the winner of the Moot Court Competition in EU Law. In the final, they also met with the student team of TSU International Law Institute "Sui Generis" consisting of Mariam Chirgadze, Shalva Kitesashvili, Lika Abesadze and Tamar Vardiashvili, who, in turn, became the author of the best written document.

 

The Institute of International Law was intensively involved in the preparation of the teams: Nino Gakharia, visiting lecturer, a new member of the team of the International Law Institute within the framework of the European Law Course, is also the Deputy Head of the International Relations Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and there was also held training on "Practical Issues to be Considered in Moot Courts", led by Tamta Zaalishvili, visiting lecturer and Experienced Trainer in Moot Courts, Head of the Quality Assurance Division of the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

 

The Moot Court Competition in EU Law is conducted annually by the Ministry of Justice of Georgia in partnership with the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ).

 

It should be noted that in the simulated process, Tbilisi State University was represented by more than one team, of which we saw 3 in the semifinals. Team members: Sophio Lejeva, Mariam Chirgadze, Lika Abesadze, Shalva Kitesashvili, Tamar Vardiashvili, Tamar Tarsaidze, Davit Garsiashvili, Sophie Karalashvili.

 

This year's moot court was related to EU intellectual property law and was held in close cooperation with the Georgian National Intellectual Property Center.

 

The project aims to raise students' awareness of the activities of the EU Court of Justice throughout Georgia and the Association Agreement between Georgia and the EU.
